South Carolina's sunny climate creates many days perfect for a hike, bike, hunt, or eighteen holes. The city is surrounded on all sides by championship golf courses, state and county parks, and national wildlife refuges. From public boat ramps, marinas, and private docks throughout the area, boaters go under sail and power for fishing, shrimping, racing, scuba diving, water skiing, surfing, sailing, and kayaking.
GOLFING, HIKING, RUNNING
For the tourists, ecological kayak and boat tours, deep sea fishing charters, and biking and walking tours are all available.
There is parking by the Ravenel Bridge in Mt Pleasant to enjoy walking the bridge, a popular pasttime.
The City has created a special parking lot that cyclists and pedestrians can use to easily access the new Ravenel Bridge. It is located at the corner of Cooper And East Bay Streets. Just look for the green signs!

BOATING & WATER SPORTS
Boating in Charleston
To operate boats, there is often an age requirement or recognition of ability to operate the boat.
Sailing is a favorite, but there is a type of craft for just about every water activity, and depending on what you plan to do on the water, you will need a specific type of watercraft.
The clipper sailing vessel is still in use but the name clipper is more commonly applied to any fast sailing vessel.
An inboard motorboat is preferred for wake or water skiing or parasailing for the safety of skiers behind the boat. A horsepower to drag a passenger fast enough to give them lift or mobility atop the water is required.
A skiff or small sea-going fishing boat, crafted of wood with a flat bottom and powered by either wind or oars may or may not include a small outboard motor, and is used for either pleasure or fishing. Boats of a certain speed or size can only be operated in designated areas.
A speedboat ranges in size from the 4-meter, open Boston Whaler type boat to the luxury mega yachts capable of crossing the ocean in comfort and style are identified by the simple fact of the use of a combustion engine motor for propulsion.
Cruiser boats range from light cruisers all the way to luxury cabin cruisers with full amenities. A light cruiser is identified by one that can leave homeport and comfortably accommodate a few passengers for a number of days. A cabin cruiser can achieve the same goal but is better equipped to offer food, drink for a longer period of time at a higher level of comfort.
Hire a captain to take you and your family to tour the secrets of the Carolina shorelines as offered by Ripley Light Marina at Ashley Point Drive in Charleston, or captain your own boat and take the helm for a day, a weekend or a week to explore the ports .
Kayaking is also a favorite pastime in the area because of the numerous creeks and waterways. As sports go, canoeing and kayaking can be among the least expensive with a minimal rental fees or start up investment for a small beginner's boat and very little additional equipment to purchase: a life jacket and perhaps a helmet. Lessons are usually a one-time thing for safety and maneuvering and there are many established outfits that are ACA certified from which to choose. Coastal Expeditions and Nature Adventures Kayak & Canoe Tours & Rentals offer lessons and rentals.
